Sa Caleta, Mediterranean restaurant near Sa Caleta Beach, Sant Josep de sa Talaia, Spain.
Sa Caleta is a seafood restaurant set in a cove on the southwestern coast of Ibiza, in the municipality of Sant Josep de sa Talaia. It has a terrace facing the water and the coastal cliffs, as well as an indoor dining area, and the menu focuses on fresh fish, shellfish, and local dishes.
In the 1970s, the spot by the cove was an informal meeting point for local fishermen who kept their boats there. Over the following decades it slowly became a proper restaurant, without losing its connection to fishing life.
The name of the restaurant is also the name of the small cove right in front of it, making the two feel like one and the same place. The cooking follows what local fishermen have always brought to the table: fresh catch, prepared simply.
The cove is reached on foot via a short path from a small parking area, which fills up quickly in summer. Arriving in the early afternoon or booking ahead is a good idea, especially in the warmer months.
Every guest receives a salt-baked fish as an opening course, cooked using a technique that has been part of island life for centuries. That simple dish shows how old methods have stayed quietly at the center of what people eat here.
