The Plaza Resort & Spa
The Plaza Resort & Spa is a beachfront hotel in Daytona Beach with more than three hundred rooms, many offering ocean views from private balconies. The building features a T-shaped layout with nine to fourteen-story wings, yellow exterior walls with cream arches, and a grand lobby with tall wooden columns and marble floors.
The original building was constructed in 1888 as a beach house and later converted into a hotel that became known as a grand resort by 1911. It was among the first hotels on Florida's East Coast to remain open year-round, attracting guests even during the hot summer months when other properties closed.
The hotel's restaurant is named after the year 1888, marking the original building's founding and connecting guests to the area's past through its dining experience. The design and layout of the resort reflect a coastal way of life, with open spaces, water sports, and beach-focused activities woven into daily operations.
The resort is centrally located, approximately eighteen minutes from the airport, and within walking distance of the Daytona Beach Boardwalk, Ocean Center, and Main Street Pier for easy exploration. Free parking, complimentary water sports equipment including paddleboards and kayaks, and a fitness center are available to all guests.
The resort sits on a site where planes once landed on the sand, and it was the first property on Florida's East Coast to stay open throughout the year instead of closing during summer heat. Today, cars are still permitted to drive slowly along this beach, a practice that remains unusual along most modern coastlines.
