The underground tourist route in Opatów spans over 500 meters of subterranean corridors and chambers that developed historically in connection with the growth of trade and craftsmanship in the medieval town.

Construction of these underground spaces began in medieval times when city walls limited surface expansion, forcing merchants and craftsmen to create basement storage areas and workshops beneath their properties.

The underground spaces reflect the rich tradition of local craftsmanship and commerce, demonstrating how cellars formed an integral part of daily life for residents who used them for storage, workshops, and shelter during conflicts.

Guided tours lasting approximately 45 minutes are available from June to November, with temperatures maintaining between 8-12 degrees Celsius, requiring visitors to dress warmly and make advance reservations for group visits.

The deepest level of these underground chambers reaches 14.5 meters below the market square surface, making it one of the most extensive medieval underground systems preserved in this region of Poland.
