National Memorial to the Heroes of the Heydrich Terror, War resistance memorial museum in Prague, Czech Republic
The National Memorial to the Heroes of the Heydrich Terror is housed in the underground crypt of Saints Cyril and Methodius Church and documents the story of Czech paratroopers who fought Nazi occupation. The exhibition displays documents, photographs, and the actual space where these soldiers made their final stand.
In 1942, seven Czech paratroopers took shelter in this crypt after executing Operation Anthropoid, the assassination of Nazi official Reinhard Heydrich. The events that followed became a defining moment in Czech resistance against occupation.
The crypt displays personal items and photographs of the resistance fighters, helping visitors understand who these people were and what drove them. These objects bring their daily lives and struggles to light in a way that feels immediate and human.
The memorial is located in central Prague and is easily accessible by public transportation. Visitors should note that the crypt is underground and reached by a narrow stairway, so comfortable shoes and some mobility are helpful.
The crypt walls still bear bullet holes and battle scars that mark exactly where the paratroopers made their final stand against German troops. These marks remain unrepaired, offering a raw and direct connection to what happened.
