Museum of Public Transport, Transport museum in Střešovice, Czech Republic
The Museum of Public Transport displays about forty historical vehicles, including trams and buses, alongside photographs and technical records from Prague's transportation history. The collection is housed in a former tram depot and documents the evolution of urban transit over several decades.
The building was originally a tram depot and received technical monument status in 1991 for its architectural importance. The conversion to a museum made this key piece of transport infrastructure open to the public.
The collection shows vehicles from different periods of Prague's growth and how people got around the city at each time. These vehicles tell stories about daily commutes and reveal which transportation shaped urban life.
Visiting the museum requires no special preparation, as vehicles are displayed in a large open space and easy to view. Wearing comfortable shoes is wise since you will walk between the exhibits.
The museum actually operates working historical trams that run on specific routes on certain summer Saturdays and Sundays. Visitors can not only view the vehicles but also experience what it felt like to ride in a real vintage tram through Prague.
