Kayangan Lake
Kayangan Lake is a freshwater lake situated on an island in the Philippines. The water sits within a limestone basin that opens to sea level through a narrow channel, creating an enclosed body of water framed by rocky cliffs.
The lake formed through natural erosion processes in the limestone landscape over thousands of years. It remained largely unknown until the region became accessible to visitors in recent decades.
Visit early in the morning when the water is clearest and fewer people are around. The lake is easier to access during low tide, so checking tide conditions beforehand helps with planning your visit.
Despite being surrounded by saltwater ocean, the lake contains completely fresh and drinkable water because limestone formations isolate it from seepage. This unusual combination of freshwater within a saltwater environment makes the lake geologically remarkable.
