Beach Kovačine, Coastal beach on Cres Island, Croatia
Beach Kovačine sits on the western shore of Cres Island, with a bed of pebbles and stones bordered by pine trees and Mediterranean plants. The beach curves gently along a sheltered cove with shallow waters near the shore.
The cove became an important stop on Venetian trade routes starting in the 15th century when Cres Island held strategic value for commerce. This maritime role shaped settlement and livelihood patterns in the region for generations.
Local fishermen maintain centuries-old fishing methods in the waters surrounding the beach, preserving traditional practices of the Kvarner region.
The beach has changing rooms, showers, and ample parking available for visitors throughout the day. Several restaurants and cafes operate nearby, and water sports equipment can be rented on site.
This is the only cove on Cres Island to hold the Blue Flag award, a recognition for water quality and environmental standards. The certification distinguishes it from all other swimming spots on the island.
