Golf de la Bretesche, Golf resort and medieval castle in Missillac, France.
Golf de la Bretesche is an 18-hole course in an old forest near Missillac where golfers play between narrow fairways bordered by ancient trees and white sand bunkers. The facility also includes a 14th-century castle with towers and a moat that is integrated into the playing layout.
The castle dates from the 14th century and stood on this land long before the golf course was built. Renowned designer Henry Cotton created the course in 1967, skillfully incorporating the existing fortress into his design.
The castle shapes the experience on the course, with several holes routed around the medieval fortress so players constantly see its historic silhouette. This architecture creates a distinctive setting that sets the golf facility apart from others.
The course is open daily and offers equipment rental as well as a covered practice area for warm-up shots. Visitors can also arrange professional instruction or stay overnight in the lodging available on the grounds.
The grounds also contain lakes and water features winding through the course that add challenge to several holes. These water elements combine with the forest paths to create a varied playing experience.
