Fort du Mont

Fort du Mont stands at 1130 meters elevation on the western slopes of Roche Pourrie, between the Beaufortain Mountains and Tarentaise Valley.

The fortress, constructed from 1877 to 1881, formed part of the French military defense system for protecting national borders during the late nineteenth century.

The fortress includes the Laitelet and Têtes bunkers, which demonstrate the military architectural techniques and defense systems of nineteenth-century French fortifications.

Individual tours operate during summer months at 5 euros for adults and 2.50 euros for reduced rates, with free entry for children under 12.

The former military installation now functions as a storage facility for aging Beaufort cheese, combining historical preservation with regional food production.
