Lofoten Golf Links, Golf course in Gimsøya, Norway
Lofoten Golf Links is an 18-hole course on Gimsøya island that runs along a rocky coastline with holes winding through natural terrain and cliff formations. The layout follows the uneven topography and uses existing rock outcrops and vegetation as natural hazards.
Construction of the course began in 1992 under architect Jeremy Turner and progressed through multiple phases until completion in 2014. The site was developed on land with ancient settlement history.
The facility integrates golf with the surrounding Nordic landscape, where the clubhouse and lodges sit within the natural terrain rather than dominating it. Visitors experience a balance between competition and appreciation for the harsh coastal setting.
From June through July, the midnight sun offers 24 hours of daylight enabling rounds at dawn and late evening. During this period, golfers can play at unusual times of day, creating a unique experience.
The second hole presents a 140-meter par 3 challenge featuring a two-tiered green positioned on a rocky outcrop overlooking the Norwegian Sea. This signature hole is known for its technical difficulty.
