Punderson Golf Course, Public golf course in Punderson State Park, Ohio, USA
Punderson Golf Course is an 18-hole public golf course set inside Punderson State Park, near Newbury Township in northeastern Ohio. The layout moves across rolling terrain with tree-lined fairways and a few water features, including a pond that comes into play on one of the more talked-about holes on the back nine.
The course opened in 1969, designed by Jack Kidwell, who shaped many of Ohio's public golf courses during that era. It has remained part of the state park system ever since, drawing players from the Cleveland area and beyond for decades.
The course is part of Ohio's state park golf system, one of six public courses managed within the state's natural parks. This means anyone can walk in and play without a membership, and the crowd tends to be a mix of local families, casual players, and visitors spending a full day outdoors.
The course is busiest on weekends and around holidays, so booking a tee time in advance is a good idea during those periods. Arriving early in the morning on weekdays tends to mean a quieter round with fewer players on the fairways.
Hole 8 is the one players talk about most: a downhill fairway squeezed between trees that bends over a pond before reaching the green, a layout sometimes called the signature hole. It stands out within the state park golf system because few holes managed by the state combine that kind of drop, bend, and water carry in a single play.
