Biotropica, Zoological garden in Val-de-Reuil, France.
Biotropica is a tropical greenhouse in Val-de-Reuil featuring nine distinct climate zones that recreate different ecosystems from around the world. The facility houses reptiles, birds, and mammals in naturalistic settings where visitors can observe animal behavior up close.
The tropical greenhouse opened in 2012 as an expansion by the founders of Cerza near Rouen. Since its opening, the facility has become a popular family destination in the region.
The facility houses 1300 animals across 130 species, including Mississippi alligators, long-nosed crocodiles, Komodo dragons, and Saharan zorillas in naturalistic habitats.
The visit works best on less busy days when animals are more active and easier to observe. The facility is well marked with clear pathways between the different zones.
Visitors can feed lorikeets by offering them flower nectar and having direct contact with the birds. This hands-on experience creates memorable moments that many guests find particularly special here.
