Rare Species Conservation Centre, former zoo in Dover, Kent, United Kingdom
The Rare Species Conservation Centre was a wildlife park set on about 1.5 acres with indoor rainforest sections and outdoor zones designed for animals from different regions. The facility divided its space into areas for Australasian species, Madagascar fauna, and South-East Asian animals, complete with streams, waterfalls, and specialized habitats.
The facility began operations in 2006 as a transformation from a small children's zoo called The Monkey Rainforest. It operated for about 9 years before closing in 2015.
The site has been closed since 2015 and is no longer accessible to visitors. Information about the former animals and their current locations can be found through wildlife conservation networks and organizations.
The park housed rare animals such as tarsiers, cuscus, maned wolves, and clouded leopards that were later relocated to conservation facilities. These animals were part of breeding and protection programs for species at risk.
