Park miniatur zamków krzyżackich
Park miniatur zamków krzyżackich is an outdoor exhibition in Chełmno featuring detailed scale models of castles built by the Knights of the Cross during the medieval period. Nine miniatures are arranged on a well-kept lawn near the old city walls, each representing fortifications that once stood across the region.
The Knights of the Cross built 21 castles across the Chełmno region starting in the 13th century, many of which were destroyed or fell into ruin over the centuries. The park was created to preserve the memory of these structures and help visitors understand the medieval history of the area.
The park showcases medieval architecture and how castles shaped life in this region. Visitors can see how these structures fit into the landscape and understand their importance to local history.
The park is located near the city center and is free to visit during daylight hours from April through October. The pathways are easy to walk, benches are available for rest, and the models are visible even outside the official season.
The models were crafted by a married couple who used over one million concrete elements to build the largest miniature of Malbork Castle, spending nine months on that single structure. Some visitors enjoy guessing which castle they are viewing based on the shapes and details alone when information plaques are not visible.
