World of Discoveries

World of Discoveries is an interactive museum in Porto that presents Portuguese maritime voyages through realistic recreations and digital presentations. The space spans about twenty exhibition areas, each covering different aspects of navigation and seafaring history.

The museum documents Portuguese seafarers from the 15th and 16th centuries who established new trade routes linking Europe with Africa, India, China, Japan, and Brazil. These expeditions transformed global commerce and made Porto a major center for maritime activity.

The place reflects how maritime heritage shaped Portuguese society, with recreated scenes showing trade routes and navigation practices that connected distant lands. Visitors experience how these connections influenced the city's identity and daily life across centuries.

A nine-meter tunnel simulates the dangerous Cape of Good Hope passage, a turning point in European seafaring. Visitors experience this famous route firsthand and understand why it was so significant for connecting continents.
