Scarborough Renaissance Festival
Scarborough Renaissance Festival is a theme park in Ellis County that recreates an English village from the 16th century and spans more than 35 acres. The grounds include castles, over 200 artisan shops, more than 20 performance stages, rides, taverns, and food venues, all designed in the style of Tudor times.
The festival was established to recreate an English marketplace from the time of King Henry VIII, focusing on the cultural and social aspects of that era. Over time it has grown into one of the largest events of its kind, attracting more than 150,000 visitors yearly.
The festival draws its name and themes from Tudor England, creating an immersive experience centered on the time of King Henry VIII. Performers stay in character throughout the day, allowing visitors to interact with the period in ways that feel immediate and personal rather than historical.
The festival runs weekends and Memorial Day from early April through late May, opening in the morning and closing in the evening. Visitors should wear comfortable shoes, bring sun protection, and carry cash since many vendors prefer it to cards.
The festival grounds are laid out in a figure-eight pattern, making it easy for visitors to navigate and reach all areas without getting lost. This thoughtful design distinguishes it from many other theme parks and keeps navigation simple and stress-free.
