HEP FIVE Ferris Wheel, Ferris wheel in Osaka, Japan
HEP FIVE Ferris Wheel is a red steel observation wheel attached to a shopping complex in Osaka, Japan. Its circular structure rises through an opening in the building's roof, carrying passengers in enclosed cabins high above the surrounding streets.
The wheel opened as part of the HEP FIVE shopping complex, anchoring a broader redevelopment of the Umeda area in Osaka. Its placement through the building's roof was a deliberate choice to give the commercial zone a recognizable vertical marker.
The wheel has become a familiar meeting point in the Umeda district; its bright red color stands out against the surrounding glass and concrete. Couples and groups of friends often take a ride as a break from shopping, turning the short loop into a shared moment above the train lines and billboards.
Visitors board on the seventh floor of the building; the cabins are enclosed and climate-controlled for comfort in any season. On clear days you can see far beyond the city center, while evenings offer a view of illuminated streets and buildings.
Unlike most observation wheels that sit on open ground, this one is threaded through the roof of a department store, so the base of the ride is inside the building. The cabins pass through a circular hole in the rooftop before reaching the highest point above the street.
