Vélorail de la Sainte-Beaume
Sainte Baume Velorail is a pedal-powered rail cycling experience in Provence where visitors ride motorized cycles along an old railway bed. The route covers roughly 15 kilometers between Pourcieux and Saint-Maximin, taking you through tunnels and across two elevated viaducts that cross the valley.
The route follows an old railway line built in the 1800s that once connected rural communities in Provence. In recent years it was repurposed as a recreational pedal activity for visitors.
The experience accommodates small groups of two to five people, with electric assistance provided on the return journey. Visits run from Wednesday through Sunday during early afternoon to evening hours.
The two viaducts offer sweeping views over the valley and surrounding vineyards from about 65 feet (20 meters) high. This elevated perspective reveals the landscape in a way rarely seen from ground level.
