Confiserie des Hautes Vosges, Candy factory and tourist attraction in Plainfaing, France
The Confiserie des Hautes Vosges is a candy factory and tourist stop in the small village of Plainfaing, in the Vosges mountains of France. The building sits at the foot of the hills along a forest road, and houses both a production workshop with large copper pots and a shop filled with jars and boxes of sweets.
The confectionery was founded in the late 1980s and has remained a family-run operation ever since. Over the years it has grown in size while keeping its traditional methods and original recipes intact.
The confectionery uses essential oils drawn from the surrounding nature, such as fir or violet, to flavor its sweets. Many varieties are sold as broken slabs or small sachets, following a long-standing local tradition.
The factory offers free guided tours several times a day, mostly on weekdays, so arriving a little early is a good idea to secure a spot. The parking area is large enough for campervans, and the shop is accessible to people with reduced mobility; dogs are welcome in the shop area.
Among the sweets on offer is the bergamote de Nancy, a specialty made from a citrus-like fruit that is produced on-site using natural extract and no artificial coloring. The shop also contains a small museum displaying old photographs and tools that show what production looked like in earlier times.
