Jamboree, bar, nightclub and music venue in Barcelona, Spain
Jamboree is a bar, nightclub and music venue set below the arches of Plaça Reial, off La Rambla in central Barcelona. Inside, a compact room with a low stage faces rows of small tables and a bar counter, while a second quieter space sits beside the main hall.
The venue opened in 1960 when Joan Rosselló turned a local bar into a jazz cellar under Plaça Reial. In the following decade it hosted touring names such as Chet Baker, Dexter Gordon and Ella Fitzgerald, helping anchor Barcelona as a stop on the European jazz circuit.
Jazz remains the thread that runs through early evening shows, with small audiences seated close enough to see every expression from the stage. Later, the same floor turns into a dance space where hip hop, funk and soul draw a younger crowd.
Arrive early on busy nights because the small room fills quickly and waiting can stretch after midnight. Public transport stops nearby at Liceu, and several bus lines pass within a short walk.
The name comes from the Zulu word for a gathering or meeting, borrowed long ago by the Scout movement. Few visitors realize that during the 1960s the cellar also drew United States Navy sailors whose ships docked in the port nearby.
