Stranddeck
Stranddeck is a beach area on Lake Kemnade in Bochum-Süd featuring soft sand, deck chairs, and umbrellas for shade. The open space includes two beach volleyball courts, a snack bar, and seating areas overlooking the water.
Lake Kemnade developed from a former mining site that was later transformed into a leisure destination. This conversion reflects how the region shifted from industrial use to a recreational space for the community.
The name Stranddeck combines 'strand' for beach with 'deck' for platform or terrace. It serves as a social gathering place where locals come to unwind, socialize with friends and family, and enjoy simple outdoor activities by the water.
The site is open during the warmer months from May to October, with weekends being particularly lively. It is accessible by public transport and has nearby parking, making it convenient for both short visits and day outings.
On weekends, live music and DJ performances transform the area into a gathering spot, particularly around sunset. Dogs are welcome in most parts of the space, making it a versatile destination for different visitors.
