Blast Furnace A is a former industrial structure in the Belval area of Esch-sur-Alzette, Luxembourg, built around the 1960s as part of a large steelmaking complex. It stands as a tall, hollow tower of steel and brick alongside Blast Furnace B, the two forming the most visible remnants of the old plant.
The Belval steelworks was a central employer in southern Luxembourg for decades, shaping the rhythm of life in nearby towns. Operations ended in 1997 when the last furnace, Blast Furnace B, was shut down, closing a long chapter of industrial production.
Blast Furnace A sits in a neighborhood that shifted from factory work to university life, and that contrast is visible the moment you arrive. The site is sometimes used for art exhibitions or community events, turning the old industrial shell into a gathering space.
