Obserwatorium Astronomiczne, Public observatory in Koszalin, Poland
Obserwatorium Astronomiczne is a public observatory located on the grounds of School no. 10 in the southern part of Koszalin, Poland. The building is a small modern structure topped with a dome that houses the main telescope and other observation equipment.
The observatory was created through a civic budget project led by Paweł Iwanek and officially opened in September 2016. It was designed from the start as a public facility, making it one of the newer places of this kind in the region.
The observatory holds Saturday lectures open to all ages, requiring no background in science to follow along. Evening sessions take place in small groups, making the experience with the telescope personal and unhurried.
Evening observation sessions require advance registration and depend on clear skies. Indoor lectures and daytime activities go ahead regardless of the weather, so it is worth checking both options when planning a visit.
The observatory sits on a school campus, which allows it to run a free astronomy club specifically for children and teenagers. On Saturdays, participants use basic instruments to make their own first observations of the sky.
