Jardines del Prado, Garden in Talavera de la Reina, Spain

The Jardines del Prado are a public garden in Talavera de la Reina, Spain, protected as a Bien de Interés Cultural. The park surrounds the Basílica de Nuestra Señora del Prado and is laid out with shaded paths, benches, a pond known as La Casa de los Patos, a frog fountain called La Fuente de las Ranas, and a small building nicknamed La Mezquita for its brick and tile decoration.

Most of the garden's layout was designed in 1864 to guide visitors toward the Ermita del Prado, drawing on French, European, and Islamic garden traditions combined with local mudéjar ceramic craft. The site has been renovated several times since then, and it also contains a small archaeological corner with remains from Roman, Arab, and medieval periods.

The benches, fountains, and small buildings throughout the gardens are covered with glazed tiles made by the Centro Cerámico de Talavera, showing everyday scenes, mythological figures, and views of the city across different periods. Near the duck pond, the tile panels depict rural life: harvesting fruit, milking cows, and children playing in the fields.

The gardens are free to enter and open almost every day, making them easy to visit at any time. The paths are flat and well maintained, which makes getting around comfortable for visitors of all ages.

One section of the park displays ceramic reproductions of Goya's Tauromaquia engravings, showing bullfighting scenes that range from medieval hunts to the 18th century, including a depiction of King Charles V fighting a bull on horseback. Goya himself is said to have worked as a bullfighter in his youth, which gives this series a personal dimension that goes beyond simple illustration.
