M-296, schip
The M-296 is a former Soviet attack submarine preserved as a museum ship in Odessa. The vessel has been kept in its original form and displays the construction and equipment of a combat submarine from that era.
The submarine was built in the Soviet Union and served as part of the Black Sea Fleet during the Cold War. It was later decommissioned and preserved in Odessa as a monument to the region's military history.
The submarine is named after a Soviet military unit and reflects the maritime traditions of the region. Today visitors can see how this vessel has become part of Odessa's identity and serves as a monument to the city's naval heritage.
Access is from Odessa's waterfront promenade, where the ship is clearly moored. It is advisable to wear comfortable shoes, as entering the submarine requires climbing narrow and steep stairs.
Inside, the submarine preserves actual work areas with technical equipment from Soviet times. Visitors can experience the extremely cramped living conditions in which the crew operated while submerged.
