Rize, Indian restaurant in Pererenan, Indonesia
Rize is an Indian restaurant set along Jl. Pantai Pererenan No.150, about 500 meters from Pererenan Beach in Canggu. The open-air dining room has casual seating under low roofs, with clay tandoor ovens visible near the kitchen and naan bread baking over coffee and rambutan wood.
Rize opened during the hardest stretch of the Covid period, when the neighborhood needed a place to gather. The first location in Pererenan later led to a second restaurant in Ubud, in the village of Nyuh Kuning where one of the founders grew up.
The cooking follows the way several generations of women in the owners' family prepared food, with spices ground every morning and curries left to simmer for hours. Visitors can watch chefs pull sourdough naan from the tandoor or hear the regular Sunday brunch music while families and surfers share long tables under the ceiling fans.
The space is open daily for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, so you can drop by at almost any hour without worrying about a long wait. Solo diners often find a seat at the counter or near the tandoor, while larger groups do better arriving early for the open-air tables.
The tandoor is fired with coffee wood and rambutan wood instead of the usual charcoal, which gives the naan a slightly sweet edge. Guests sometimes come only for the masala chai, made with Assam and Darjeeling teas and a spice blend ground fresh each day.
