El Alamein Hotel, Hotel in Matrouh, Egypt
El Alamein Hotel is a hotel on the northern coast of Egypt inside the Marassi development at Sidi Abdel Rahman. Its interiors draw on the style of the 1950s and 1960s, with black-and-white photographs, wall art, and a mosaic of Umm Kulthum.
The property has existed for more than half a century before a major renovation by Emaar. It reopened in 2018, when the historic hotel was given a new life within the Marassi destination.
Moving through the corridors, visitors encounter framed scenes in black and white and a large mosaic of singer Umm Kulthum. These pieces echo Egypt's mid-century cinema and music culture, so the hotel itself reads almost like a small gallery of that era.
The grounds sit directly beside the beach, so walking between the main building, outdoor art, and the shore is straightforward. Mornings before the full sun and late afternoons tend to be the easiest times for moving around outside.
Look up above the beach at Sidi Abdel Rahman and you will see a field of hanging umbrellas rising more than thirteen meters. This outdoor artwork draws from the song “Qadi el Balaj” by the late singer Abdel Halim Hafez, bringing a musical memory into the open air.
