&Beyond Ngorongoro Crater Lodge, Hotel and lodge in Ngorongoro, Tanzania
&Beyond Ngorongoro Crater Lodge is a hotel and lodge sitting on the rim of the Ngorongoro Crater in Tanzania. It is made up of three camps, North, South, and Tree, with suites spread across the grassland, each featuring private terraces overlooking the crater floor.
The lodge was built on the edge of the Ngorongoro Crater, one of the most well-known wildlife areas in Africa, which has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1979. The property is currently closed for a major renovation and is expected to reopen in 2027.
The lodge was designed with a mix of traditional Maasai references and the style of historic European palaces, which you can see clearly in the carved wood, stonework and oversized furniture inside. Visits to nearby Maasai villages are available to guests who want to see how people live on the edge of this protected land.
The usual way to arrive is via Manyara airstrip, from where the drive up to the lodge takes about an hour. Most guests stay one or two nights and combine the visit with a trip to the Serengeti.
The Tree Camp sits lower on the slope and is surrounded by trees, which can partly block the crater view but gives a very different feel from the other two camps. A private butler is included in every suite, which is not a common feature for a lodge in this part of Africa.
