National Security Service, state agency of Armenia
The National Security Service is a government agency headquartered in Yerevan at 104 Nalbandian Street. It handles intelligence operations, counterintelligence, border security, constitutional protection, and corruption investigations across Armenia.
Founded in December 1991 after Armenian independence, the service inherited responsibilities from the Soviet-era KGB. It played a significant role during the 2020 Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, where border troops served on the front lines, and later uncovered security threats following the ceasefire agreement.
The headquarters is located in central Yerevan with visible security features including cameras and controlled access points. Citizens can submit requests through an online system, access information through the agency's website, or use the anonymous whistleblower system to report concerns.
The service employs specialists under age 30, many of whom receive training at Russia's FSB academy. A reserve officer organization founded in 2021 assists the agency with security challenges, including involvement from former senior leadership.
