Mikael Nalbandyan, Bronze monument in Circular Park, Kentron District, Armenia
The Mikael Nalbandyan monument stands on the Ring Boulevard at its intersection with Nalbandyan Street in Yerevan. The 4.5-metre bronze figure of the writer is set on a polished black granite slab almost at sidewalk level, with a low wall bounding the monument area on the left.
The monument was erected in 1965 on the Ring Boulevard at its junction with Nalbandyan Street. Its authors were sculptor Nikoghayos Nikoghosyan, a People's Artist of Armenia, and architect Jim Torosyan. It honours the writer and poet Mikael Nalbandyan and is listed among the monuments of the Kentron district.
The statue honors Nalbandian's role in shaping modern Armenian identity through his written works and intellectual contributions. His ideas about language and education continue to resonate with visitors who pass through the park.
The statue sits in a central location in Yerevan and is easily accessible by public transportation near the park area. The site is open to visitors at any time and is most enjoyable during daylight hours when you can see the details of the bronze clearly.
The bronze figure stands almost at sidewalk level rather than on a tall pedestal, a deliberate choice meant to place Nalbandian close to the life of the street. A low wall at the left corner bounds the monument's zone, and the silhouette reads clearly from every side.
