House-Museum of Derenik Demirchyan, cultural heritage monument of Armenia
The House-Museum of Derenik Demirchyan is a biographical museum in Yerevan housed in the apartment where the writer lived from 1929 until his death. The rooms preserve their original furnishings and contain approximately 670 objects including books, manuscripts, documents, and personal belongings that span different periods of his life.
The writer lived in this house from 1929 until 1956 and made significant contributions to Armenian literature as a playwright and intellectual. The museum opened in 1977 to preserve his life and work for future generations.
The house served as both home and workplace for the writer and is displayed as he used it during his lifetime. The rooms filled with personal objects offer visitors a direct sense of how he worked and spent his daily hours.
The museum is located at 29 Abovyan Street, Apartment 4, in a central part of the city making it easy to reach. It is open Tuesday through Saturday from late morning until late afternoon, with extended hours on Sunday, and offers affordable admission with free entry on the last Saturday of each month.
The museum preserves a violin that belonged to the writer, revealing his passion for music alongside his literary work. This instrument provides insight into the diverse artistic interests of a man now remembered primarily for his plays.
