Yerevan, Administrative district in Yerevan, Armenia
Yerevan is the capital of Armenia and spreads across twelve districts with their own government offices and municipal departments. The entire urban area covers roughly 223 square kilometers and sits in the Ararat Plain, surrounded by volcanic hills and mountains.
The city grew over centuries from a small fortress settlement into a Soviet industrial center with planned housing blocks and wide boulevards. After 1991, it became the capital of an independent nation and underwent rapid urban transformation.
Each neighborhood runs its own community centers where locals attend Armenian dance classes, practice traditional musical instruments, or gather for shared celebrations. These regular meetings bring together several generations and keep old customs alive in daily urban life.
District offices assist residents with document processing, business registration, and municipal permit applications through local branches. For visitors, these service points offer information about neighborhoods, public facilities, and community events across different parts of town.
The central district holds Republic Square, where the main government buildings rise from pink tuff stone. This volcanic material gives the entire downtown a warm rosy tone, especially visible in the late afternoon light.
