Mother Armenia, War memorial monument in Victory Park, Yerevan, Armenia.
Mother Armenia is a war memorial monument in Victory Park, Yerevan, Armenia. The entire structure reaches 51 meters in height, with the figure itself measuring 22 meters and standing on a massive stone granite pedestal.
The monument was erected in 1967 at the site of a former Stalin statue, marking a departure from Soviet symbolism toward Armenian self-assertion. The choice of a female warrior figure was meant to express resilience and national autonomy.
The statue depicts an armed female figure with a sword and a shield, representing Armenia as protector of its people. Relief carvings on the base show military scenes from Armenian history.
The path up to the monument leads through Victory Park and takes about 15 to 20 minutes on foot. Inside the pedestal there is a museum displaying items related to Armenian military history, accessible through an entrance at ground level.
The copper surface of the figure carries a small gold-covered mark on the forehead, visible in direct sunlight. This feature distinguishes the memorial from other warrior monuments around the world and was added during fabrication.
