America Cultural Center, Cultural center in Plaza 9 de Julio, Salta, Argentina
America Cultural Center is a three-story building featuring Venetian mosaic floors and stained glass windows brought from Milan. Located at Bartolome Mitre 23, the structure contains multiple rooms and a main hall designed for hosting cultural activities and events.
The structure was built in 1913 on the grounds of a former Jesuit church and first served as the headquarters of Club 20 de Febrero. It later functioned as the Government House from 1950 to 1987 before becoming the cultural center it is today.
The ground floor halls are named after important figures from Salta, reflecting how deeply the region's artists and thinkers shaped local identity. Walking through, you encounter these names repeatedly and sense their ongoing relevance to the community.
The center offers free admission and hosts various cultural programs throughout the year. You can move freely through the multiple rooms and main hall, taking your time to explore what interests you most.
The building conceals iron structural elements imported from England beneath its decorated surfaces, while walls incorporate ornaments made from chaguar fibers harvested locally. This blend of European engineering hidden behind regional materials tells the story of how the building bridges two different traditions.
