Traralgon Post Office and Court House, Historic post office and court house in Traralgon, Australia.
Traralgon Post Office and Court House on Franklin Street is a two-story structure topped with a mansard roof and a prominent clock tower. It features patterned brickwork with round-arched windows and ornamental floral decorations that accent the facade throughout.
The building was designed and constructed in 1886 by architects John Thomas Kelleher and J. R. Brown. It gained Victorian Heritage Register status in 1982 and was added to the Commonwealth Heritage List in 2011.
The building displays Italian architectural elements combined with Australian design approaches of the late 1800s. It shows how public institutions of that era used elaborate architectural details to project authority and permanence.
The postal section operates during regular office hours for standard mail services. The courthouse section is being transformed into a community space and visitors can access it during events and guided tours arranged by local groups.
The building originally served as more than a postal and legal hub, functioning as a sub-treasury that handled financial services for the region. The upper floor contained living quarters for the Post Master, making it both a residence and administrative center rolled into one.
