Shrine of Our Lady of Mercy, Penrose Park, Catholic shrine in Southern Highlands, New South Wales, Australia.
The Shrine of Our Lady of Mercy is a church and monastery complex in the Southern Highlands housing a replica of the Black Madonna of Jasna Góra. The grounds include multiple chapels and buildings designed for worship, lodging, and visitor services.
The shrine was founded in 1984 when Father Augustine Lazur brought a replica of the Black Madonna from Poland to create a new pilgrimage center. It has since grown into an important place for believers from many different backgrounds.
Pilgrims from around the world have built chapels on the grounds, each reflecting their own traditions and beliefs. Walking through the site, you see how different communities have created sacred spaces that feel like home to them.
The site is open daily for visitors to explore the chapels and grounds at their own pace. Accommodations and facilities are available for those who wish to extend their stay for prayer or reflection.
The site grew from a converted barn into the complex it is today through gradual expansion. Additional land was purchased in 2010 to add pilgrim accommodations and a shop, showing how the place has adapted to serve more visitors over time.
