Camping de la Meije, Mountain campground in La Grave, France.
Camping de la Meije is a mountain campground situated on flat terrain at 1450 meters elevation near the village of La Grave. Each pitch covers roughly 90 to 100 square meters and is separated by natural hedges, offering privacy while remaining open to the surrounding alpine landscape.
The campground emerged beside the historic mountain village of La Grave, which has drawn alpinists for centuries. Over time the site was modernized while maintaining its focus on traditional alpine camping experiences alongside contemporary facilities.
The site functions as a gathering place for mountaineers and hikers who exchange experiences and connect with others pursuing alpine activities. This community orientation shapes the quiet, nature-focused character that visitors experience here.
The site lies just 50 meters from the village center and is easily accessible on foot. The season runs from May through September, and hikers can access mountain trails directly or use the cable car to reach the Meije glacier from here.
The campground deliberately avoids artificial entertainment facilities and instead emphasizes the beauty of the immediate mountain environment. Visitors are shaped by unobstructed views of surrounding glaciers and the rugged alpine setting that surrounds them.
