Kompa, Restaurant in Gornji grad neighborhood, Osijek, Croatia
Kompa is a restaurant in Osijek, located at the corner of Franje Antuna Blažića and Splavarska streets, right on the bank of the Drava river. The terrace extends close to the water, so diners sit with the river directly in front of them.
Kompa has been operating since the 1970s, making it one of the older eating spots in Osijek. The site previously served as a ferry crossing point, where boats carried people from one bank of the Drava to the other.
The Kompa sits right on the Drava riverbank, and many guests come specifically to eat on the terrace with the water in front of them. The menu follows the cooking tradition of Slavonia, with river fish and grilled meats at its center.
The terrace is the best option in warmer months, as it sits right on the water with an open view of the Drava. In winter, the indoor space is warm and welcoming, offering shelter without losing the riverside setting.
The name Kompa simply means ferry in Croatian, a direct reference to what the site once was. The link between the old crossing point and the current restaurant is still carried in the name today.
