Melanda Beach Restaurant, Seafood taverna in Avdimou, Cyprus
Melanda Beach Restaurant is a seafood taverna in Avdimou Bay, Cyprus. It sits above a cove with clear water, surrounded by greenery, and serves fresh fish brought in daily by local fishermen.
Andreas Tsiolos opened a small restaurant in Avdimou Bay in 1980, initially serving mainly British military officers. His son later took over, and today the founder's grandsons, Andreas and his younger brother, run the place with their family's help.
The taverna has been a meeting point for locals and visitors for over four decades, and its tables often fill with families and groups sharing plates of fish. The staff are mostly young people from nearby villages, and their easy way with customers is part of what people remember.
The restaurant is open from March to November, daily except Tuesdays, and closes between November 30 and March 10. To get there, take exit 38 off the highway for Avdimou, Prastio and Pachna, then follow the dirt road toward the sea and the signs for Melanda.
The restaurant won an award at the Eating Awards, nominated by a chef who was also a regular customer. The owner studied kitchen management and cooking at a private university to learn the trade from the ground up.
