Persia, Persian restaurant in Praha 1, Czech Republic
Persia is a Persian restaurant in the Karlín district of Prague, run by chef Ata Alipour. The dining room has a modern feel with a few pieces of original Persian art on display, and the menu centers on lamb dishes and saffron ice cream.
The chef spent seven years catering Persian food and seven months looking for a suitable space before opening the restaurant after seven weeks of renovation. Previously, he worked as a personal chef, cooked at the Sultan restaurant in the Old Town, and ran a brief fast food spot in Vršovice before finding this location.
The name Persia refers to the historic name of Iran, and the restaurant serves as the first and only full Persian dining room in the country. During the annual Iranian Film Festival in Prague, the chef has presented Persian food to festival visitors, a practice that helped build recognition for this style of cooking.
It is best to plan for a quiet meal rather than a quick stop, as the preparation of Persian specialties takes some time. Visitors to the Karlín area can find the restaurant by walking from the nearby metro station and keeping an eye out for the modest storefront near the neighborhood's main streets.
The number seven marks the entire project: seven years of catering, seven months of searching, and seven weeks of rebuilding. The chef himself did much of the construction work, putting down his knives to use a drill, hammer, and brush before opening the doors.
