Beef Bar, Restaurant and grillhouse in Staré Město, Prague, Czech Republic
Beef Bar is a restaurant and grillhouse on Na Perštýně street in Prague's old town, serving South American beef, empanadas, and New York pastrami. The room has a modern industrial look, with distinct bistro and bar-grill areas, and the menu also includes homemade sausages and fish for those who avoid red meat.
The business grew out of a simple idea formed in the nineties, when its founders traveled through South America and decided to bring that meat tradition to Prague. Since then it has become a fixed address for grilled beef and pastrami in the old town, while keeping the same family-run approach to sourcing.
The owners began importing meat from Uruguay and Argentina in the nineties after visiting those countries, and that South American connection still shapes the menu. Wines from small family wineries in regions such as Mendoza and Rio Negro are served alongside the food, and many ingredients can be bought at the counter to take home.
The bistro and the bar-grill keep slightly different hours, with the grill room staying open later into the evening. It is sensible to reserve in advance, as the place is known to fill up, especially on weekends when musicians play.
Alongside the South American cuts, the kitchen serves a pastrami sandwich that is prepared following its own recipe. The menu also pairs Czech beer such as Matuška with the meat, a local touch that visitors often discover only after sitting down.
