Ploc, French restaurant in the 20th arrondissement, Paris, France
Ploc is a French restaurant in the Ménilmontant neighborhood of the 20th arrondissement of Paris. The small space has a cobblestone terrace out front, a bar painted in shades of blue, vintage furniture, and large floral-patterned plates used for serving.
The restaurant was opened by two cooks who had previously worked at other places in the neighborhood, including La Vierge. The project brought together Lisa Rufi for the lunch service and Connor McGrath for the evenings, each with their own approach to the food.
The name of the restaurant is an onomatopoeia: it imitates the sound a bottle makes when opened. This playful idea carries through to the drinks list, where bottles are chosen with the same spirit in mind.
The restaurant sits in the heart of Ménilmontant and is easy to reach on foot from nearby metro stations. The lunch and dinner offerings are quite different from each other, so it helps to decide in advance which service you want to attend.
In the evening, scallop tartare is served with a rhubarb compote and celery root fries shaped like matchsticks, all presented on the same large floral plates used at lunch. Despite the small size of the place, two different cooks run the lunch and dinner services with separate menus.
