Canvas
Canvas is a rooftop restaurant on the seventh floor of Volkshotel offering indoor and outdoor dining spaces. The venue overlooks southern Amsterdam and the Amstel River, serving food from early morning until late at night.
The building was constructed in 1965 as headquarters for Volkskrant newspaper, with the top floor serving as a gathering space for journalists. In 2007 the building was repurposed, transforming the rooftop into a public dining venue.
The space shifts from a daytime dining venue into an evening entertainment hub, with DJ performances and dancing on select nights throughout the week. Visitors come to experience the energy and social atmosphere that makes this rooftop a gathering spot beyond just eating.
Access is through the hotel entrance, with both covered and open seating areas on the terrace. The rooftop can get quite busy during good weather and in the evenings when entertainment is happening.
Within the space is Klein Canvas, a private function room with its own separate terrace that accommodates up to 80 people while maintaining city views. This enclosed area allows for more intimate gatherings while still offering the same elevated vantage point.
