Mercat de l'Olivar, Municipal marketplace in central Palma, Spain.
Mercat de l'Olivar is a market hall in central Palma with more than one hundred stalls offering fresh fruit, vegetables, fish, meat, cheese, and island specialties across two floors. The lower level focuses mainly on fish and seafood, while the upper floor sells produce and other food products.
The hall opened in 1951 on a square formerly surrounded by olive groves. In the late 1990s, the building underwent major renovations to upgrade its facilities.
The building takes its name from the olive groves that once grew on this site before the neighborhood was developed. Locals shop in the morning hours and chat with stall holders about recipes and ingredients.
Access is available from Monday to Thursday in the morning, with Friday also open in the afternoon, and Saturday closing in the early afternoon. Parking spaces are located beneath the building for visitors arriving by car.
In the fish section, catches from the Mediterranean arrive daily and vendors prepare them according to customer requests. Some sellers also offer a selection of live crustaceans in tanks.
