The National Library occupies the historic Clementinum complex, holding over seven million volumes within its baroque halls and modern storage facilities.
Founded in 1622 as part of Charles University, the institution developed from a university library into the primary national collection of the Czech Republic.
The Library maintains the complete collection of Czech publications through legal deposit laws, preserving the national literary heritage for future generations.
The facility opens Monday through Saturday from 9:00 to 19:00, offering research services, digital resources, and interlibrary loans to registered users.
The Baroque Library Hall features ceiling frescoes depicting arts and sciences, alongside rare astronomical instruments from the 18th century.
