Spiaggia della Rotonda

Spiaggia della Rotonda is a sandy beach along the Tyrrhenian Sea, nestled beneath tall cliffs and framed by the distinctive San Leonardo rock formation. The shore slopes gently into the water and offers both public and private sections with rental services for sunbeds and umbrellas.

This coastal area provided Greek settlers with a natural harbor, allowing them to establish maritime trade networks that extended across the Mediterranean as far back as the 7th century before the common era. The geography of the site made it a strategic hub for commercial connections.

The beach has long been central to the local community, serving as a workspace where residents repaired nets and prepared for daily fishing expeditions. The rhythms of seaside work continue to shape how people use the water and shore.

Access is via stairs descending from Tropea's old town to reach the beach, where amenities serve both free and paid sections. It is wise to arrive early during warmer months, as popular areas fill quickly, especially on weekends.

The water remains warm enough for swimming from April through November, giving this coast one of the longest swimming seasons in southern Mediterranean waters. Many visitors overlook this extended season and plan trips only for summer months.
