Maison de La Pierre du Sud de L'Oise

The Maison de la Pierre explores a network of underground tunnels extending 15 meters below ground, featuring high limestone ceilings and ancient mining equipment.

The quarries supplied stone materials for numerous Parisian landmarks since the 16th century, including Opera Garnier, Pont Neuf, and Hotel des Invalides.

Professional sculptors conduct stone carving workshops at the museum, teaching traditional techniques used by generations of local quarrymen.

The museum operates Wednesday through Friday from 13:30 to 18:00, with guided tours requiring warm clothing due to constant 11°C temperature underground.

The underground galleries served multiple purposes through time, functioning as wartime shelters during World War II and later as mushroom cultivation spaces.
