Potager des princes, Heritage garden in central Chantilly, France.
Potager des Princes is a garden in Chantilly with terraced vegetable plots, a bamboo maze, and a Japanese garden situated along the Saint-Jean Canal. The site features about one kilometer of landscaped paths connecting different themed areas.
André Le Nôtre designed the terraced structures in the 17th century on the former gardens of the Grand Condé. This foundational work established the layout that still characterizes the site today.
The Faisanderie Theatre uses the space for performances and concerts, especially during the summer La Scène au Jardin festival. Visitors experience the gardens as a living venue where culture and nature come together.
Guided tours in multiple languages are available to help visitors understand the different areas. Plan to spend approximately one hour to walk through the landscaped paths at a leisurely pace.
A Japanese vegetable garden opened in 2023 with an inauguration by the Japanese ambassador, making it the first of its kind in France. This addition brought a fresh thematic dimension to the already diverse collection of garden styles.
