Sweetland Amphitheatre at Boyd Park, Outdoor theater in LaGrange, Georgia, US
Sweetland Amphitheatre at Boyd Park is an outdoor theater set into a hillside inside Boyd Park, in downtown LaGrange, Georgia. The stage faces tiered seating that includes stadium chairs, table seating, and open lawn space for audiences of different sizes.
The land has been a public park since 1935, when it was known as City Park and included a swimming pool and later a baseball field. It was renamed after Jim and Annette Boyd in 2004, before the city partnered with Troup County and the Callaway Foundation to transform it into the current amphitheater.
The venue is used as a gathering place for concerts, local festivals, and outdoor theater. During warmer months, many visitors bring blankets and picnic baskets to sit on the lawn and enjoy performances under the open sky.
The amphitheater sits in downtown LaGrange, within walking distance of restaurants, shops, and hotels. Arriving early is a good idea for popular shows, as lawn spots fill up fast and nearby parking can be limited.
Every winter, the stage area is converted into an outdoor ice skating rink for an event called Sweetland on Ice. This seasonal transformation draws visitors who might not otherwise attend performances, giving the space a completely different feel during the colder months.
