Charco del Conde

Charco del Conde is a natural saltwater pool tucked into a protected cove on the western side of La Gomera, with grey sand sloping gently into calm water. The rocky inlet naturally shields swimmers from ocean swells and strong currents.

The location originated as a fishing zone and gradually transformed into a swimming destination as Valle Gran Rey developed tourism during the 1960s. This shift from working harbor to leisure spot unfolded slowly while preserving the area's maritime character.

The name references a local historical figure, and the place remains shaped by fishing families who maintain traditional practices here. The waters connect deeply to the maritime identity of the Canary Islands.

The beach sits at the village edge with easy access from the main street, and the shallow water makes it suitable for children and less experienced swimmers. Wear water shoes to protect your feet on the rocky patches at the entry and bottom.

The water refreshes twice daily through tidal currents, creating a natural bathing pool without ocean swell inside the cove. This circulation keeps the water pleasant and clean for swimming.
